Systems

Myth: Systems are too complicated, bureaucratic and time consuming.

Reality: Once processes are documented, you won’t have to make it up as you go. Everyone will know how things should work, resulting in less confusion, less conflict and more time!

Though some think that systems are only for “big” companies, the truth is that ALL businesses need systems. They don’t have to be complex, but they do need to be clear and easily understood. Well-documented systems allow you and your staff to understand processes and discover areas for improvement. With successfully implemented systems, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you want to do something.

3 Categories of Systems Processes

  1. Understanding who is accountable for the work assigned. This is linked to a no-fuss performance management system that works. Clarify the primary and secondary systems that result in excellent customer service, increased revenue and reduced staff, as everyone is doing what is expected in a way that successful.
  2. Ensuring that you have appropriate hiring systems in place. This is crucial for hiring candidates with the skill sets and attitude best for your corporate culture.  Skillset is the easy part of the selection equation but hiring for the appropriate mindset or attitude is where the skills I teach you come in. I can help you see beyond what is being said in the interview and then a verification system that is foolproof.
  3. Establishing appropriate staff orientation and training programs. How do you introduce new staff and train existing staff? Do you believe in a Darwinian approach: only the strong survive? Creating clarity in the key accountabilities is an effective way to get your new staff up and running, as well as creating opportunities for succession planning within the company.
